My art career originally began with sketches. Soon, Mom provided me with real paints. I ran the gamut of mediums, including pastels, watercolors and finally, acrylics. Years later, I was trying to talk myself into oils. I had been painting in acrylic on masonite and enjoying the immediacy of the drying time, but I had been hearing that 'real' artists painted in oils.

One day, I had a big acrylic painting in the back of my vehicle in a cardboard sleeve. I was late for an appointment and leaned the painting up against the yard fence. We had been remodeling, with construction material in the yard. I zoomed back in the yard, driving over a piece of cardboard that was laying near my parking spot.

Then the light bulb went off. The wind had blown my painting over and I had just driven over it with both tires of the Bronco. Certain I had destroyed it, I slipped it out of the sleeve and to my relief... not even a scratch. When I visualized an oil painting on canvas, I cringed. So acrylics it was!

Later years have found me much more sophisticated (haha) and I dabble in both oil and acrylic. I hope to pick up the brush a little more in the future, I have admittedly been enamoured with sculpting for the last twenty years.
